Our Story
His
My journey to Claire began in my hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where I attended the Milwaukee High School of the Arts, following in the footsteps of my sister and brother. Even back then, I was drawn to traveling, exploring new places, meeting people, and discovering cultures from around the world. I first met Claire through mutual friends. It was a brief but unforgettable moment: between classes, outside the gym, we talked about Portugal; where it was and what it was like. Her curious, genuine gaze stayed with me long after that day. That moment was over 15 years ago, so the details are blurry now, but I never forgot it. We stayed loosely connected on social media, and over the years, I admired her incredible photos and stories. I’ll admit, I had a little high school crush on Claire, which probably explains why she stayed on my mind. Years later, I decided to send her a message. It was a bit awkward; I said something like, “Hey, how’s life going? I don’t know if you remember me, but for some reason, I was thinking about you the other day.” It wasn’t the smoothest opening line, but it worked. We started chatting here and there, and when I graduated from university, I decided to take a leap of faith and travel to Europe to hike the Camino de Santiago. I made plans to meet Claire in Portugal. There were no expectations, just a hope to reconnect with someone extraordinary and experience the incredible place she calls home.

Her
It was 2009 and we were both (and still are) introverts. At Milwaukee High School of the Arts, we had two things in common: friends and a serious lack of flirting skills (come on, we were 16 and 17, you can't ask for much!). We talked a few times, but it took 10 years and a Facebook message from Jerry for us to admit that we had a crush on each other back in school. The conversation, like the previous ones, was brief. A few more years went by and we reached 2022, when Jerry decided to walk the French way to Santiago de Compostela. His visit to Europe would end up in Portugal, so another message landed in my Instagram inbox, asking for recommendations and tips for his trip. Of course, so many years later, we couldn't miss the chance to meet up and catch up! He spent three weeks in Lisbon and the rest... is the story you already know :) Countless reunions at various airports, a relationship with no permanent address, a 6-hour time difference and a tireless network of family and friends. Since then, we've hiked together the Portuguese way to Santiago and have conquered many other adventures and challenges. Our wedding day will be about celebrating those paths and chances you take in life. Because there are journeys really worth taking.
On Board
Ceremonies - yes, plural!
We will have both a Catholic Ceremony and a shorter Jewish Ceremony, and they'll both be held in the same place.

Location: Santuário Nossa Senhora do Montalto, Arganil, Coimbra, Portugal
Coordinates: 40°12'57.0"N 8°01'54.0"W
Hours: the Catholic Ceremony will start at 3:30pm, followed by the brief Jewish Ceremony.

Directions (coming in from Lisbon*)
- Driving: take highway A1 towards Porto/Norte; take exit 13 to merge onto E801/IP3 toward Viseu/IC2/Coimbra Norte; take exit 13 for IC6 toward Covilhã/N17/O. Hospital/N342-4/Arganil; follow the signs towards Santuário Nossa Senhora do Montalto.

* Plan for a 2 hour & 45 minute drive. There's a parking lot at the Church.

Note: for people coming from abroad, we recommend that you rent a car and drive up to the wedding location. There are buses that make the connection to Arganil but the area is low on public transportation, therefore after you get there it's not easy to get around without a car. We encourage carpooling, whenever possible :)

Reception
Party time, wohooo!
The cocktail, reception and party will all take place in the same venue, located right next to the Church. This means that it will only take 1 minute to move your car from the Church parking lot to the Reception parking lot ;)
As most people will be staying the night at a hotel in Arganil area, and for those who don't want to drive after the reception, you can plan on booking a taxi cab to pick you up at an agreed hour. Please note that taxi payment is usually in cash and that there's no Uber type of service in the area.

Get to Portugal
For those coming from abroad, we recommend flying into Lisbon, as there are usually more direct flights or better connections.
Where to Stay (Wedding)
Here's a list of places we recommend you to stay at - each hotel name is a link. Arganil is a very small town, but there are a lot of nearby small towns, only 20 minutes away by car, that offer many options.
Coming rom the U.S., there are direct flights out of Chicago, New York JFK or Newark, Washington D.C., Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Flying through Dublin is also a good option as there is a U.S. clearance border in the airport. Other usual and good connections are London and Madrid.
